Renowned for their confident posture, brilliant intelligence, and affectionate personalities, American Serama bantams make exceptional tabletop show birds and devoted indoor companions. Explore everything you need to know about caring for and loving these remarkable tiny birds.

The world's smallest chicken with a huge heart

American Serama bantams are officially recognized as the smallest chicken breed in the world, but their personalities are truly larger than life. These tiny chickens are known for their upright stance, confident personalities, intelligence, and beautiful variety of colors and feather types.

Highly intelligent and easy to train, Seramas can excel in both tabletop competitions and traditional cage shows. They are also wonderful companion birds and can form incredibly strong bonds with their people. Many Seramas become very comfortable with human interaction, following their owners around, enjoying lap time, and seeking attention much like a loyal little house pet.

Despite their tiny size, Seramas are active, curious, and full of personality. Each bird can have its own unique appearance and temperament, making every Serama special. They are wonderful for experienced breeders and exhibitors, but they can also make amazing pets for families who are looking for a small, friendly, interactive chicken.

Their small size also means they require thoughtful care and protection from extreme temperatures, predators, and rough handling. With proper care, nutrition, and a safe environment, these little birds can be wonderful companions and rewarding birds to raise.

At Torri’s Tiny Serama Mama Farm, we take pride in raising American Seramas with an emphasis on quality, temperament, health, and preserving the unique characteristics that make this breed so special.

Frizzles should never be bred to frizzles. For this reason, we do not sell Frizzle pairs. Frizzles must be paired with smooth-feathered birds, or sold as two Frizzle roosters or two Frizzle hens.

Our specialty calico champion bloodlines

We take immense pride in breeding champion bloodlines with a dedicated focus on the breathtaking calico pattern. Combining gorgeous blends of rich orange, deep black, and crisp white, no two calico Seramas look exactly alike. Each chick develops its own unique shading, ranging from soft pastel tones to striking high-contrast feathering. Watching their vivid colors bloom as they mature is one of the most rewarding experiences for any keeper.

Essential care, housing, and next steps

Because of their miniature size, Seramas have unique care needs. They cannot handle extreme cold and require supplemental heat whenever temperatures drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Their compact size makes them ideal for indoor living in rabbit-sized cages. They should never free-range unsupervised, as they are vulnerable to predators and can fly as high as wild birds.
